Text: Autonom im Vollsinne des Wortes ist nur der Tugendhafte, der aristotelische "spoudaios", der sich selbst Maßstab und Regel ist1; und zwar, weil ihm nämlich immer nur das als gut erscheint, was auch wahrhaft gut ist. Der Tugendhafte ist die existentielle und operative Verkörperung des Naturgesetzes und nur im Kontext der sittlichen Tugend gibt es "sittliche Objektivität" als die unumstößliche Wahrheit der Subjektivität. Von tugendhaften Menschen sagt Thomas bekanntlich "ipsi sibi sunt lex".2 In dieser Autonomie und Freiheit - Selbstdeterminierung auf das Gute hin - der Tugendhaften besteht "der höchste Grad menschlicher Würde, weil solche nämlich nicht von anderen, sondern durch sich selbst zum Guten geführt werden".3 Maß und Regel in den menschlichen Dingen ist deshalb die im "ordo rationis" ruhende sittliche Tugend4, die ja selbst ein Werk der natürlichen Vernunft ist, wie auch jener Vernunft, die, als Klugheit, ihr entspringt.
